The primary goal of the Winterization course is to give you a basic understanding of the Industry winterization process. This is a prerequisite course for any CTDL Certifications.

Core Competencies

  • Understanding MFS Terminology and reporting upon such;
  • Permorming winterizations and properly documenting such;
  • Performing Real Time Assessments and shielding Client liability;
  • Properly documenting photographic history based upon unique Client needs; and
  • Chronicling health and safety issues, progress, and winterization tasks

What is the target audience?

  • This is an Apprentice level Module
  • The Work Order Module is a prerequisite
  • This Module is a prerequisite for all Field Service Technician and Inspector Journeyman and Master Certifications

The skillsets required for completion are fundamentally based upon a high school diploma or a GED equivalent. Proficiency in the English language are mandatory. Familiarity with a Windows based desktop computer system combined with the ability to operate a smartphone are required. Attention to detail is a core component of successfully completing the Work Order course.

Course requirements

Prerequisites:

  • Completion of Work Order fundamentals course 
  • Basic understanding of residential plumbing systems
  • Physical ability to access crawl spaces, attics, and basements

What You'll Learn:

  • Complete winterization procedures for all water systems
  • Proper use of RV antifreeze and safety precautions
  • Draining water heaters, boilers, and HVAC condensate lines
  • Winterizing toilets, sinks, tubs, showers, and appliances
  • Required photo documentation and reporting
  • De-winterization procedures
  • HUD conveyance condition requirements
  • Common mistakes and how to avoid costly callbacks

Equipment Needed:

  • Air compressor (recommended) or shop vacuum
  • RV antifreeze (non-toxic, typically 2-5 gallons per property)
  • Basic hand tools (wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers)
  • Buckets and towels
  • Flashlight or headlamp
  • Camera for documentation
  • Personal protective equipment (gloves, safety glasses)

Note: Winterization is a critical property preservation service typically performed in fall/winter months. Improper winterization can result in tens of thousands of dollars in freeze damage, making accuracy and completeness essential.
